Description
Clear 18/2 AWG Two Conductor Speaker Wire - 100' 18 AWG Speaker wire is commonly used in home theaters, digital audio, and stereo speakers. 18 AWG Speaker wire is not built for nor rated for in-wall usage.
How is it built? Well, speaker wire is built from finely stranded tinned copper conductors.
The conductors are then covered with translucent PVC insulation. To help identify polarity, Pacer added a positive (+) symbol to one of the conductors.
This insulation is made to be flexible which makes installation easy. How do you use 18 AWG speaker wire?
They start by selecting the correct gauge. The gauge can be determined by determining how long the wire needs to be.
It's a good idea always to add a few extra feet. This leaves room for error and keeps the run from becoming too tight.
After you know the length of the wire, you need to consider the power requirements of your application. Once you know the length of your run and the power requirements, you can choose the correct gauge wire for your job.
If you would like help selecting the proper speaker wire, contact a Pacer expert today. Electrical — frequently asked
- What’s the difference between marine wire and regular wire?
- Marine wire uses tinned (tin-coated) copper strands that resist the corrosion salt air causes, and it’s more finely stranded so it flexes with vibration without breaking. Standard automotive or household wire corrodes and fails much faster in a marine environment.
- How do I size a fuse for a marine circuit?
- Size the fuse to protect the wire, not just the device. Match the fuse rating to the wire gauge’s safe current capacity so the fuse blows before the wire overheats. When adding a new circuit, follow the wire manufacturer’s ampacity chart for the gauge and run length you’re using.
- Do I need a battery switch on my boat?
- A marine battery switch is strongly recommended. It lets you disconnect the battery for storage or service, isolate a failed battery, and — on multi-battery setups — choose which bank powers the boat. It’s a core safety and reliability component.
