Engine Shutdown - 5 Circuit with 20A Relays - Round Display If a fire breaks out aboard a diesel-powered vessel, the engine(s) must be shut down prior to or during the discharge of a suppression system to effectively extinguish the fire. Continued engine operation may remove the agent, lowering the concentration required to effectively extinguish the fire, making an Engine Shutdown System necessary.
Consisting of a Shutdown Control Module and Helm Display Unit with an Override Button the Fireboy Engine Shutdown System is an effective means to automatically shut down engines, generators, and blower systems in the event of a fire. - How many life jackets do I need?
- You need at least one properly fitted, Coast Guard-approved life jacket (PFD) for every person aboard, and boats 16 feet and over generally also need a throwable flotation device. Fit matters — a PFD that fits and is worn is what actually saves lives.
- Do marine flares and fire extinguishers expire?
- Yes. Pyrotechnic flares have an expiration date (typically about 42 months) and must be replaced, and fire extinguishers must be within date, charged, and undamaged. Check both on a schedule and replace anything expired — required safety gear only counts if it’s current.
