Engine Parts & Service — frequently asked
- How often should I replace my raw-water impeller?
- A common recommendation is once a year or per your engine maker’s interval, and sooner if you see cracks, set, or missing vanes. The impeller is a wear item, and a failure causes rapid overheating — so many boaters also carry a spare aboard for on-water repairs.
- How do I find the right parts for my engine?
- Marine engine parts are specific to make, model, and year (and sometimes serial number). Match the part to your exact engine specs rather than by appearance — a close-but-wrong impeller, filter, or anode may not fit or may fail. Have your engine details handy when ordering.
- What are anodes (zincs) and when do I replace them?
- Sacrificial anodes corrode in place of the more important metal in your engine and drive, protecting against galvanic corrosion. Inspect them regularly and replace when roughly half consumed. Use the right material for your water — zinc for salt, aluminum for brackish, magnesium for fresh.
