Hunting & Fishing — frequently asked
- What type of rod holder should I get?
- It depends on your boat and fishing style. Flush-mount holders are clean and permanent, rail-mount and clamp-on holders are flexible and removable, and heavy-duty holders suit trolling loads. Choose based on layout, target species, and whether you troll or still-fish, and mount on solid backing.
- Do I need a downrigger?
- A downrigger is worth it if you troll for fish that hold at a specific depth — it puts baits precisely where the fish are, which dramatically improves consistency. Match the downrigger capacity and boom length to your boat and the depths you fish, and mount it securely.
- How do I keep fishing gear from corroding?
- Choose marine-grade (stainless, coated, or UV-stable) gear, and rinse rod holders, reels, downriggers, and hardware with fresh water after every saltwater outing. Salt and sun are what degrade fishing gear fastest, so a quick freshwater rinse and dry storage add years of life.
